Fairbanks began the month of May with a record high temperature of 76°F in what was an overall warmer than normal month. The average temperature was 51.5°F (2.7 degrees above average) and the average high and low temperatures were 63° and 41° respectively. The overall high for the month was 80°F, which was reached on the 24th and 25th and the low temperature did get below freezing on the 15th with 31°F. Precipitation at the airport was quite light with just 5 hundredths of an inch reported, a mere 8% of normal and the third driest May on record. Winds averaged about 5 mph and the highest gust of 30 mph was reported on the 27th. No snow was reported during the month. |
